India’s government telecom company BSNL is trying a new way to grow its customer base. To make its SIM cards more easily available, the company has partnered with the Department of Posts.
Under this plan, BSNL SIM cards will now be sold directly through post offices across the country. This move is expected to improve access, especially in areas where BSNL stores are limited.
SIM Cards Now Available at Post Offices
According to reports, the agreement between BSNL and the Department of Posts has already been implemented. SIM card sales have started at select post offices and will expand to more locations in the coming weeks.
Officials say that private telecom companies like Airtel and Jio have strong retail networks across cities. In comparison, BSNL has fewer service centers, making it harder for customers to access its services.
Post offices, which are already spread across the country, will now act as a convenient place for people to buy new SIM cards and even recharge them.
Big Boost for Rural and Small Town Users
This initiative is expected to benefit people living in rural areas and small towns the most. Many of these regions still lack private telecom stores, but post offices are easily available.
By using this wide postal network, BSNL can reach customers who previously had limited options. This could help the company increase its sales while making telecom services more accessible to users.
KYC Process Will Remain Mandatory
Even though SIM cards will be available at post offices, the standard KYC (Know Your Customer) process will still apply. Customers will need to complete verification before getting a SIM card.
Once the KYC process is done, the SIM will be issued as usual.
This strategy focuses on improving availability and convenience. With post offices present in almost every part of India, buying a BSNL SIM could become much easier.
However, it will be interesting to see whether this move helps BSNL compete more effectively with major players like Airtel and Jio.
