Aprilia has decided to discontinue its maxi-style scooters, the Aprilia SXR 125 and Aprilia SXR 160, from the Indian market.
Both models have been removed from the company’s official website, and dealers have also confirmed that stock is no longer available.
The main reason behind this move is low demand and weak sales. However, it is still not clear whether Aprilia will bring updated or next-generation versions of these scooters in the future.
Why Aprilia SXR Scooters Were Discontinued
The SXR 160 was launched in late 2020, followed by the SXR 125 in 2021. At the time of launch, both scooters received a positive response and sold reasonably well.
However, the market changed quickly. New and more attractive options like the Yamaha Aerox 155 gained popularity among buyers. As a result, demand for the SXR models slowly declined.
In the 150–160cc scooter category, competition also increased. Models like the TVS NTorq 150 and Hero Zoom 160 gave customers more sporty and feature-rich choices. Compared to these, the SXR scooters started losing their appeal.
Aprilia’s Current Scooter Lineup in India
Even after discontinuing the SXR series, Aprilia continues to sell other scooters in India. The current lineup mainly includes the Aprilia SR 125 and Aprilia SR 175.
These scooters are more sporty in design and performance compared to the SXR range. The SR 160 is also still listed on the company’s website, but it is expected to be phased out soon as dealer stock reduces.
Updates in Aprilia Motorcycles in India
Apart from scooters, Aprilia has also updated its motorcycle range in India. In February, the company introduced new variants with improved features and styling inspired by MotoGP.
These updated versions come with advanced features like a quickshifter and adjustable brake levers as standard. A quickshifter can also be added to other variants, but it costs extra.
One of the key models is the Aprilia Tuono 457, which is based on the brand’s 457cc platform. It is priced starting at around ₹3.97 lakh and comes in two colour options: Piranha Red and Puma Gray.
Engine and Features of Aprilia 457 Platform Bikes
Both the Tuono 457 and the Aprilia RS 457 use the same 457cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. This engine produces 47.6 hp of power and 43.5 Nm of torque.
The bikes come with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch for smoother riding.
They also include modern features like a 5-inch TFT display, LED lighting, ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, and multiple riding modes such as Eco, Sport, and Rain.
