New Delhi:
In India, children below the age of 5 are eligible for a special Aadhaar Card known as the “Child Aadhaar Card” or commonly referred to as the “Blue Aadhaar Card”.
This unique identification document, distinguished by its blue color, serves as an essential form of identification for young children.
Let’s delve deeper into what makes the Blue Aadhaar Card special and how to obtain it.
Why is it Different?
The Blue Aadhaar Card is tailored specifically for young children, recognizing the challenges associated with obtaining biometric data from infants and toddlers.
Unlike regular Aadhaar cards, which require fingerprints and iris scans, the Blue Aadhaar Card simplifies the process by relying on a unique identification number linked to the parent or guardian’s Aadhaar card, along with the child’s facial photograph.
How to Apply for the Blue Aadhaar Card?
Follow these steps to apply for the Blue Aadhaar Card:
Locate the Nearest Enrollment Center: Visit the UIDAI website to find the nearest enrollment center.
Gather Essential Documents: Carry proof of the child’s birth (such as a birth certificate or vaccination card) and your own identity and address proof (e.g., Aadhaar card, voter ID card, ration card), along with a recent photograph of the child.
Complete the Enrollment Form: Fill out the Aadhaar enrollment form, which can be downloaded from the UIDAI website beforehand.
Capture the Child’s Photograph: The enrollment personnel will capture the child’s photograph at the center.
Submit Documents: Provide the completed form and all necessary documents to the enrollment personnel.
Collect the Enrollment Slip
Upon completion, you will receive an enrollment slip containing the Child’s Enrollment ID (EID), which can be used to track the application status online.
Important Points to Remember
Free of Cost: The Blue Aadhaar Card issuance is free of charge.
Validity: The Blue Aadhaar Card remains valid until the child reaches 5 years of age.
Renewal
Upon reaching 5 years of age, the child’s fingerprints, iris scans, and a new photograph must be added to the Aadhaar card. This can be done at any enrollment center.
