Delhi Free LPG Cylinder Scheme Explained
The Delhi government’s 2026-27 budget includes a provision of ₹260 crore for free gas cylinders for women during Holi and Diwali.
The assistance is provided through the government’s scheme rather than as a general free-cylinder benefit for every household.
The earlier announcement stated that families holding ration cards in Delhi would be covered. The assistance is intended to be transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the eligible family head.
The benefit is scheduled around Holi and Diwali. According to the scheme details, the assistance is not dependent on whether the LPG cylinder is refilled during the same month.
Who Can Get the LPG Benefit
The scheme is aimed at eligible families covered under the applicable Delhi government criteria. The announcement also stated that the benefit would apply to ration-card holders whether they use LPG or a piped natural gas connection for cooking.
Therefore, the scheme should not be understood as a free LPG cylinder being physically delivered to every Delhi household. Eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance according to the scheme’s rules.
What Is the LPG Cylinder Price
The current listed price of a 14.2-kg non-subsidised Indane domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi is ₹942. IndianOil’s latest published metro price information lists this rate for Delhi.
The price of a domestic LPG cylinder can change when oil marketing companies revise rates. The commercial 19-kg LPG cylinder is priced separately and is not the same as the domestic cylinder covered by household LPG schemes.
Uttar Pradesh Also Offers LPG Support
Uttar Pradesh has also approved free LPG cylinder refills for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
The state government’s approved scheme provides two free LPG cylinder refills to eligible beneficiaries for the financial year 2025-26, with one phase covering October to December 2025 and another covering January to March 2026.
This means LPG assistance differs from state to state and depends on the eligibility rules of the particular scheme. Beneficiaries should check the applicable government conditions before assuming they are entitled to a free cylinder.
