Key Benefits of End-to-End Encryption
While Messenger already boasts several privacy and security features, including delivery controls, app lock, block, and message request options, the default end-to-end encryption takes user security to a new level.
Messages and calls will now remain confidential from the moment they leave the sender’s device until they reach the recipient’s device, ensuring that even Meta cannot access the content.
New Features to Elevate Messaging Experience
Alongside the implementation of end-to-end encryption, Meta is introducing several new features to enhance the overall messaging experience on Messenger:
Edit a Message: Users now have the ability to edit messages within a 15-minute timeframe, providing flexibility in communication.
Disappearing Messages Extension: Disappearing messages on Messenger will now persist for 24 hours after being sent, and users will receive notifications when dealing with such messages.
Read Receipt Control: Messenger introduces a read receipt control, allowing users to decide whether others can see when their messages are read.
Photo and Video Upgrade: With over 1.3 billion photos and videos shared daily on Messenger, Meta is improving accessibility, advancing photo quality, and offering more control over shared visual content.
