India Post Bonus 2026 has been approved for eligible postal employees, with the Department of Posts sanctioning a bonus equivalent to 60 days of emoluments for the 2025–26 accounting year.
The decision covers Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C employees, non-gazetted Group B staff, Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and eligible casual labourers.
The bonus amount will depend on the employee category, eligible earnings, number of days worked and applicable calculation rules.
For regular departmental employees whose average eligible monthly emoluments reach the prescribed ₹7,000 ceiling, the 60-day bonus works out to approximately ₹13,816.
India Post Bonus 2026: Who Is Eligible?
According to the Department of Posts order dated October 16, 2026, the bonus applies to three main groups.
Regular departmental employees include MTS, Group C and non-gazetted Group B staff, while regularly engaged GDS will receive an ex-gratia bonus.
Eligible full-time casual labourers, including those with temporary status, are covered under a separate ad-hoc bonus provision.
Each category has its own eligibility requirements and calculation method, so the amount payable will not be identical for every worker.
How Much Bonus Will Postal Employees Receive?
For regular postal employees, the bonus is calculated using average eligible monthly emoluments and the number of bonus days. The formula specified in the order is:
Bonus = (Average Monthly Emoluments × Bonus Days) ÷ 30.4
The calculation uses eligible salary components, including basic pay, dearness allowance and certain other specified allowances.
If eligible monthly emoluments exceed ₹7,000 in any month during the 2025–26 accounting year, the amount considered for that month is capped at ₹7,000.
For an employee with average eligible monthly emoluments of ₹7,000, the calculation is ₹7,000 × 60 ÷ 30.4, resulting in approximately ₹13,816.
The actual amount may be lower depending on eligible earnings, qualifying service and applicable deductions.
The average is calculated using eligible earnings from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Proportionate deductions may apply for extraordinary leave and periods recorded as dies-non, under the applicable rules.
GDS Bonus Calculation and Casual Labour Rules
For Gramin Dak Sevaks, the ex-gratia bonus is calculated using the average monthly Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) and the corresponding dearness allowance.
The same 60-day formula applies, with the monthly amount restricted to ₹7,000 when the prescribed ceiling is exceeded.
GDS who joined during the year, left service or were put off duty for part of the accounting period may receive a proportionate amount, subject to the applicable rules.
Eligible earnings are assessed for the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
Casual labourers must meet separate service conditions. Full-time casual labourers, including those with temporary status, must have worked eight hours a day for at least 240 days per year for three consecutive years or more as of March 31, 2026.
For offices following a five-day working week, the requirement is 206 days per year for three consecutive years.
Their bonus is calculated using notional monthly wages of ₹1,200, subject to the applicable rules and actual wages where these are lower.
For 60 days, the maximum calculated amount is approximately ₹2,368 before adjustment for the number of days worked during the accounting year.
When Will the India Post Bonus Be Paid?
The Department of Posts has sanctioned the bonus for the 2025–26 accounting year, with the expenditure to be met from the approved grant for the 2026–27 financial year.
The order does not specify a confirmed date on which employees will receive the money.
Eligible employees should check official departmental communications for payment-related updates.
The India Post Bonus 2026 amount will depend on the relevant employee category, eligible earnings and service conditions, rather than a single fixed payment for everyone.
