MakeMyTrip Price Drop Protection could help travelers who worry about flight fares falling after they book their tickets.
The new add-on feature allows eligible customers to claim a refund for the fare difference if the ticket price drops after booking.
The feature is available for both domestic and international flights and can be used for one-way as well as round-trip bookings. However, travelers need to pay a separate fee to add this protection to their booking.
MakeMyTrip Price Drop Protection
Under this feature, travelers can get a refund if the eligible fare for the same booking falls after the ticket is purchased.
For example, if a domestic flight is booked for ₹9,000 and the eligible fare later falls to ₹7,000, the difference is ₹2,000. If all conditions are met, the customer can claim a refund of up to ₹2,000.
The maximum refund is ₹2,500 per passenger for domestic flights. For international flights, the maximum refund is ₹3,000 per passenger.
How Long Protection Remains Valid
The protection applies from the time the flight is booked until six hours before the scheduled departure.
Eligible customers can claim the refund within 30 days after completing their journey. The claim remains subject to MakeMyTrip’s applicable terms and conditions.
The feature does not guarantee that a fare will fall after booking. It only provides compensation if an eligible fare reduction takes place within the specified period.
Price Drop Protection Charges
Price Drop Protection is a paid add-on and is not included automatically with the flight ticket.
For domestic flights, the feature starts at ₹229 per passenger. For international flights, the starting charge is ₹349 per passenger.
This amount has to be paid separately from the flight ticket price.
For instance, if a domestic flight costs ₹11,000 and the traveler pays ₹229 for the protection, a later eligible fare reduction of ₹2,000 could result in a refund of up to ₹2,000.
However, if the fare does not fall, the protection fee is not refunded.
Does It Make Early Booking Better
The feature is designed to reduce the risk of booking a flight early and then seeing the fare decline later.
However, Price Drop Protection does not mean that early booking will always result in a cheaper overall ticket.
Its purpose is to provide a refund when an eligible fare falls after booking, subject to the maximum limit and other conditions.
Travelers should therefore check the protection fee, refund limit and eligibility conditions before adding it to a flight booking.
