Sending an important parcel or Rakhi through India Post is common, and most people track it online until it reaches the destination.

But sometimes, the tracking status shows “Delivered” even though the parcel has not actually been received.

Such cases become more common during busy festivals like Rakshabandhan.

If this happens to you, don’t panic. There are a few simple steps you can take to locate your parcel and file a complaint if needed.

Why Does the Tracking Show “Delivered”?

There are several reasons why this may happen.

The parcel may have been marked as delivered by mistake due to a technical issue or human error.

During heavy delivery periods, the status may be updated before the parcel is actually handed over.

In some cases, the parcel is kept safely at the local post office or given to a trusted neighbor or family member.

The first thing you should do is contact your local post office or the postman responsible for your area. Many issues are resolved at this stage.

How to File a Complaint

If the local post office is unable to help or you do not get a satisfactory response, you can file a complaint with India Post.

You can:

Visit the official India Post customer grievance portal and submit an online complaint.

Call the India Post toll-free helpline 1800-266-6868 and provide your tracking ID and booking details.

Keep your tracking number and booking receipt ready, as they will be required during the complaint process.

Track Your Complaint Online

After filing a complaint, you will receive a complaint reference number.

Using this number, you can check the progress of your complaint through the India Post complaint portal. You may need to provide details such as your tracking number, delivery date, and other relevant information.

Can You Get Compensation?

If the postal department finds that your parcel or important document was lost because of its mistake or negligence, you may be eligible for compensation.

The amount of compensation depends on the type of service used, such as Speed Post or Registered Post, and is decided according to India Post’s rules.
