A major update has come for millions of central government employees and pensioners regarding the 8th Pay Commission.
The Commission has announced a stakeholder meeting in Chandigarh in September 2026, where employees, pensioners, unions, and employee organizations can directly share their demands and suggestions.
Stakeholders from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh will be eligible to participate. Similar meetings have already been planned for New Delhi, Chennai, and Puducherry.
Apply Before August 25
Those who wish to meet the Commission in Chandigarh must submit their application online by August 25, 2026.
Applicants must mention the unique Memo ID received after submitting their memorandum. Once the application is approved, the Commission will inform participants about the meeting date, time, and venue separately.
What Will Be Discussed?
The Commission wants to gather direct feedback before preparing its final recommendations for the government.
Some of the key issues expected to be discussed include:
Salary structure
Fitment factor
Pension benefits
Promotions
Allowances
Service conditions
Working environment
The suggestions collected during these meetings will play an important role in shaping the Commission’s final report.
Meetings Planned Across India
Before Chandigarh, the Commission will hold meetings in New Delhi from August 7 to 10.
After that, meetings are scheduled in:
Chennai: September 7–8
Puducherry: September 9
The Commission has clarified that stakeholders should apply only for the meetings scheduled for their respective states or Union Territories. Meetings for other regions will be announced separately.
Final Report Expected by May 2027
The Central Government set up the 8th Pay Commission on November 3, 2025, and gave it 18 months to submit its report.
This means the Commission is expected to present its final recommendations by May 2027.
So far, the Commission has already held discussions with employee and pensioner groups in cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Leh, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata.
Employees and pensioners are now closely watching the consultation process. Many believe that the fitment factor, minimum wage,
and pension revisions will be the biggest issues in the final recommendations, as these decisions could directly affect the salaries and pensions of millions of people.
