Construction workers registered with the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (UPBOCW) can receive a monthly pension of ₹1,000 under the Mahatma Gandhi Pension Scheme after turning 60 years old.
However, workers must meet certain eligibility conditions to receive this benefit.
Who Can Get the Pension?
To qualify for the scheme, a worker must:
Be at least 60 years old
Have been registered with the UPBOCW Board for at least 10 years
Be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh
Not be receiving any other government pension, except benefits under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) or the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF)
Eligible workers can then apply to receive the monthly pension.
How to Apply Online
Workers need to submit their application online by uploading the required documents on the official UPBOCW website: upbocw.in.
During a committee meeting held at Vikas Bhawan, Chief Development Officer Abhinav J. Jain instructed officials to ensure that all applications are verified within the prescribed time limit. He also asked departments to spread awareness about the scheme so that more eligible workers can take advantage of it.
The committee also reviewed the pension application of Ramesh Chandra Vishwakarma and recommended forwarding it to the Board office for further approval.
Officials including Additional Labour Commissioner Shamim Akhtar, Labour Enforcement Officer Pawan Kumar, and Social Welfare Department representative Sunil Kumar attended the meeting.
Paravet Workers Demand Regularization
In a separate development, paravet workers associated with the Animal Husbandry Department submitted a memorandum demanding regularization of their services.
They said they have been working for years and play an important role in implementing government schemes, vaccinating animals, carrying out artificial insemination,
and providing animal healthcare in rural areas. Despite this, they do not receive the same benefits as permanent employees.
The workers requested the government to regularize their jobs and provide them with essential service benefits.
Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer Arun Kumar assured them that their memorandum would be forwarded to the state government for consideration.
