If you still have an old laminated or paper Voter ID card, it may be time for an upgrade.
The Election Commission allows voters to get a PVC Voter ID card online using their phone.
A PVC Voter ID card is more durable than a paper or laminated card.
It doesn’t tear easily, comes with better security features, and is more convenient to carry.
The best part is that you can apply for it in just a few minutes through the Election Commission’s website or the Voter Helpline app.
How to Apply Through the ECI Website
Follow these simple steps to apply for a PVC Voter ID card online:
Visit the official Election Commission of India (ECI) website.
Sign up using your mobile number and EPIC (Voter ID) number, then log in.
Click on Correction of Entries / Shifting of Residence and select Form 8.
Choose whether you are applying for yourself or a family member. Select Self, enter your Voter ID number, and click Submit.
From the available options, choose Issue of Replacement EPIC without correction.

A reference number will be generated. Save it to track your application status.

You can also apply directly from your smartphone using the Voter Helpline app.
Here’s how:
Download the Voter Helpline app from the Play Store or App Store.
Open the app and tap Voter Registration.

Review all the details and submit the application.
Save the reference ID to check your application status later.
Is There Any Fee?
If your old Voter ID card is torn, damaged, or worn out and you are applying through Form 8, the Election Commission usually provides the replacement PVC card free of cost.
The card is also delivered to your home through Speed Post without any delivery charges.
However, if your Voter ID card has been lost, you may have to pay a fee of around Rs 25 to Rs 30.
In some cases, you may also be asked to submit a copy of an NC or FIR.
How Long Does It Take?
After your application is submitted successfully, the PVC Voter ID card is generally delivered to your registered address within 15 to 30 days.
You can track its progress anytime using the reference number provided after submission.
