The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a major update that will help thousands of salaried employees facing PF account issues.
Many employees often discover that a wrong Member ID has been linked to their UAN (Universal Account Number).
This usually happens due to mistakes made by companies while creating PF accounts.
Because of this error, employees face problems while transferring or withdrawing PF money.
In some cases, the service history even shows jobs where the employee never worked.
Now, EPFO has made it possible to remove such incorrect Member IDs online.
What Has Changed in the New EPFO Rules?
Earlier, employees could remove a wrong Member ID only if no PF contribution had been deposited into that account.
But under the new EPFO update, even Member IDs with deposited contributions can now be delinked from the UAN in certain cases.
This change is expected to provide huge relief to employees struggling with incorrect PF records.
How to Remove the Wrong Member ID
If you notice an incorrect Member ID linked to your UAN, you can follow these steps:
Visit the EPFO portal and log in using your UAN and password
Go to the “View” section
Click on “Service History”
You will see all Member IDs linked with your UAN
Select the incorrect Member ID
Click on the “D-Link” option available next to it
After this, the EPFO system will automatically verify the details.
OTP Verification Is Mandatory
Once you submit the request, you will need to verify it through OTP authentication.
Here’s how the process works:
Select the reason for removing the Member ID
Tick the confirmation checkbox
Click on the OTP option
Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
After verification, the request will be sent to the employer who created that PF account.
Important Conditions You Should Know
EPFO has also set some conditions for this process.
Request May Be Rejected If:
The joining date in the Member ID is before December 13, 2016
Contributions have already been deposited in that account
Automatic Approval Cases
If contributions were deposited less than two times, the Member ID can be removed once the employer approves the request.
Cases Sent to EPFO Office
If contributions were deposited more than twice but not more than six times, and the employer rejects the request, the matter will go to the concerned EPFO regional office for review.
When Delinking Is Not Allowed
If contributions were deposited more than six times in that Member ID, the account cannot be removed through this online process.
Why This Update Matters
Incorrect Member IDs can create serious problems in PF transfers, withdrawals, and service records.
EPFO’s latest update is aimed at reducing these issues and making PF account management easier for employees.
For many workers, this new online facility could save both time and unnecessary stress while handling PF-related corrections.
