If you are planning to apply for a new Aadhaar card or update your existing details, the new UIDAI rules can make the process much simpler.

UIDAI has now approved more documents for Aadhaar enrollment and updates, helping people who earlier faced problems due to missing paperwork.

To make the process easier, separate document lists have been introduced for different categories of people. This change is expected to benefit thousands of applicants across the country.

Big Changes Introduced in the New Aadhaar Rules

One of the biggest updates is related to Aadhaar enrollment for children. Under the new rules, children living in Child Care Institutions (CCI) can now use a certificate issued by the District Child Protection Officer as a valid document.

UIDAI has also included special provisions for transgender individuals by recognizing related identity documents for the first time.

For OCI cardholders, Aadhaar enrollment will now require both a valid foreign passport and an OCI card.

Documents Needed for Aadhaar Name Update

If you want to update your name in Aadhaar, a passport is considered the strongest document because it includes your photo, address, date of birth, and full name.

Apart from this, you can also use:

PAN card

Voter ID card

Driving license

Government-issued ID card

Marriage certificate

These documents are especially useful for people changing their name after marriage.

Documents Required for Date of Birth Correction

A birth certificate remains the most important document for updating the date of birth in Aadhaar.

Other accepted documents include:

Passport

Class 10 or 12 marksheets

Pension documents

Physical PAN card

Government-issued IDs showing date of birth

With these documents, users can easily correct or update their birth details in Aadhaar records.

Address Update in Aadhaar: Accepted Documents

For updating your address, you can submit:

Passport

Bank passbook

Recent bank statement

Utility bills such as electricity, water, and gas bills are also accepted, but they should not be older than three months.

People living in rented homes can use:

Rent agreement

Police verification document

Notarized documents

Additionally, voter ID cards, ration cards, and property tax receipts are also valid for address proof.

Important Things to Remember Before Aadhaar Update

Before visiting an Aadhaar centre, make sure you:

Check the latest UIDAI document list

Carry original documents

Provide an active mobile number

Fill all Aadhaar details carefully

Visit only official Aadhaar centres

Following these steps can help avoid delays or rejection during the update process.

Name Change After Marriage or Divorce Made Simpler

UIDAI has also simplified the process for people changing their name after marriage or divorce.

Under the new rules, a marriage certificate issued by the central or state government will be accepted as a valid document for name change.

If the marriage certificate includes a photo, it can directly work as proof of identity, address, and relationship. However, if there is no photo on the certificate, applicants will also need to provide a photo ID with their old name.
