In a big move to expand digital banking in India, Reliance Jio has partnered with Bank of Baroda. The goal is simple — bring easy banking services to people who still use feature phones instead of smartphones.
The companies have introduced a new app called “BOB World Lite”, specially designed for feature phone users. This step is expected to help millions of people access banking services without needing a smartphone.
Easy Banking Now on Feature Phones
The “BOB World Lite” app is built for devices like the JioPhone Prima 4G. It works smoothly even on slow internet and keypad-based phones.
With this app, users can do everyday banking tasks such as:
UPI payments
Sending and receiving money
Paying bills
This makes digital banking simple and accessible, even for those in areas with limited internet access.
Designed to Boost Financial Inclusion
This initiative supports the vision of the Reserve Bank of India and the government to make digital payments available to everyone.
The app will come pre-installed on the JioPhone Prima 4G, so users can start using it right away. Existing JioPhone users can also download it easily from the JioStore.
Another key highlight is that the app is not limited to Bank of Baroda customers. People from other banks can also register and use it through a simple process.
Reaching Rural and Semi-Urban India
Bank of Baroda’s CEO Debdutt Chand said the app will offer safe and simple banking to a large number of feature phone users, helping reduce the digital gap.
At the same time, Sunil Dutt from Jio highlighted that the company has always focused on affordable digital services, and this partnership is another step in that direction.
With Jio’s strong network and Bank of Baroda’s wide customer base, this initiative is expected to significantly expand digital banking access, especially in rural and semi-urban areas across India.
