Every day, millions of passengers depend on Indian Railways to travel across the country. However, booking emergency tickets, especially Tatkal tickets, has often been very difficult.
As soon as Tatkal booking opens, seats get sold out within seconds. Because of this, many common passengers are left disappointed.
To solve this problem, Indian Railways introduced a major digital reform in 2026 to make the booking process fair and transparent.
Strict Action Against Bots and Touts
Under the new system, special software and monitoring tools are now actively tracking ticket bookings. If any account tries to book tickets at an unusually fast speed, the system can quickly detect it.
Such accounts may be temporarily or permanently blocked. This step is expected to reduce the involvement of touts and illegal booking activities.
Mobile number and government ID verification have now been made compulsory. Tatkal tickets cannot be booked without proper authentication. This rule will help stop fake accounts and reduce black marketing of tickets.
Technical Improvements for Fair Booking
Earlier, the railway website would slow down as soon as Tatkal booking started because of heavy traffic. Now, server capacity has been increased to handle high demand smoothly.
Special filters are active during the first few minutes of booking to block auto-fill tools and script-based booking attempts. This ensures that regular passengers get a fair chance to book tickets.
The speed difference between the mobile app and the website has also been removed. Both platforms now run on the same technical system. This improves transparency and prevents any one platform from having an unfair advantage.
Name and identity checks have also become stricter. If there is any mismatch in ticket details, the ticket may be cancelled and a fine can be imposed.
The payment system has been upgraded to make transactions faster and safer, reducing the chances of payment failures even when seats are available.
One of the most important changes is that the first few minutes of Tatkal booking are now reserved only for general passengers.
Authorized agents are not allowed to book tickets during this period. This step aims to create a more equal and trustworthy booking system for everyone.
