Vespa has launched the Vespa Officina 8 Special Edition in India. This isn’t just a cosmetic update, but a tribute to the workshop where the Vespa story began.

Available at a starting price of ₹1.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) in 125cc and 150cc variants, the Officina 8 is aimed at customers who see their scooters not just as daily transport, but as a symbol of design, history, and lifestyle.

History of the Vespa Officina

To understand this scooter, you have to go back to Pontedera, Italy, in 1944. Inside the Piaggio factory, there was a small experimental department called Officina 8.

It was here that engineers and mechanics worked on early prototypes, constantly assembling and disassembling machines, testing parts, and experimenting with new ideas. These efforts eventually led to the birth of the first Vespa in 1946.

So when Vespa uses the name Officina 8 today, it isn’t just marketing. It’s a nod to the place where the brand’s DNA was shaped.

What makes this edition special?

The biggest attraction at first glance is the matte metallic Blue Officina 8 colour. It’s different from the typical Vespa shades and is inspired by the industrial tools and workwear used in the original workshops.

The scooter features metallic rivets, brass accents, and aluminium finish details.

These handcrafted touches give it a vintage-industrial character, while still maintaining the classic steel Vespa body.

True to Vespa’s style-focused approach, the experience goes beyond the scooter itself.

Each buyer also receives a helmet in the same Blue Officina 8 finish, an exclusive metal presentation box, and historical material about the original Officina 8 workshop.

Additionally, a full range of themed merchandise is available, including hoodies, windbreakers, T-shirts, backpacks, keychains, and even a matching top box.

Engine and daily use

Despite the retro-inspired design, the mechanical setup remains familiar. Buyers can choose between 125cc and 150cc petrol engine options, both known for smooth performance and easy urban riding.

These engines are designed for comfortable city commutes rather than outright performance, making the Officina 8 suitable for everyday use while still offering a strong sense of style and heritage.
