Google has rolled out a major and impactful update to its AI video generation model, Veo 3.1. With this new version, creating videos has become easier, faster, and more professional.
Google states that Veo 3.1 delivers better video quality, understands prompts more clearly, and maintains stable characters throughout videos.
One of the biggest upgrades is native support for vertical videos, making it ideal for Shorts and Reels and saving creators time and effort.
Ingredients to Video Feature Gets Smarter
The Ingredients to Video feature has been significantly improved in Veo 3.1. Users no longer need to write long and complex prompts. By using just a reference image and a short text, creators can generate engaging, story-based videos.
The update adds a cinematic feel, smoother flow, and more natural transitions. Google also says that characters and objects now appear more accurately and consistently within scenes.
Improved Character and Scene Consistency
One of the strongest features of Veo 3.1 is its character consistency. Characters now maintain the same facial features, body language, and overall appearance throughout the video.
In addition, backgrounds, textures, and props remain consistent across different scenes. This makes it much easier to create longer stories by joining multiple short clips together.
Native Vertical Video Support for Shorts and Reels
Google has added built-in support for the 9:16 vertical aspect ratio in Veo 3.1. Videos are now generated directly in vertical format, allowing creators to upload them to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels,
and TikTok without cropping. According to Google, this feature is specially designed for creators who produce fast, mobile-first content.
Better Video Quality and Availability
Google has also improved overall video quality in Veo 3.1. Videos in 1080p resolution now look sharper and clearer, and 4K upscaling has been introduced, though it is not yet available on all platforms.
The Ingredients to Video feature can be accessed through YouTube Shorts, the YouTube Create app, and the Gemini app.
For business users and developers, Veo 3.1 is available via the Flow app, Gemini API, Vertex AI, and Google Vids.
