Older vehicles in Delhi will be allowed to get petrol and diesel only until October 31, 2025.
This decision was made at a meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
Starting November 1, 2025, the ban on providing fuel to older vehicles will come into effect in Delhi
and key NCR cities such as Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Gurugram, Sonipat, and Faridabad.
Under the No Fuel Policy, vehicles that have reached a certain age—10-year-old diesel vehicles and 15-year-old petrol vehicles—will no longer be able to access fuel at petrol stations.
These vehicles will also be prohibited from operating on the roads.
The goal is to automatically reduce air pollution by removing these older vehicles from circulation, giving some relief to Delhi-NCR’s air quality.
Cities Where the Policy Will Apply
From November 1, 2025, the No Fuel Policy will be implemented across five major NCR districts, including Delhi:
Delhi
Gurugram
Faridabad
Ghaziabad
Sonipat
Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida)
Under Direction 89 of CAQM, old vehicles that have crossed the prescribed age will not only be denied fuel supply but will also be strictly monitored. Action will be taken against violators to ensure compliance.
Reason Behind the Policy
The CAQM explained that the earlier postponement of the policy was not a relief but a period for preparation.
Some technical and practical challenges in implementing the system required additional time for the government and agencies to address them.
Earlier, from July 1, 2025, fuel supply to old vehicles at petrol pumps in Delhi had already stopped.
Violators were fined up to Rs 10,000. However, due to opposition from vehicle owners
and some shortcomings in the existing system, the Delhi government recommended implementing the policy simultaneously across the entire NCR region.
Following this recommendation, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa formally appealed to the CAQM to defer the policy until November 1, 2025, which was approved.
