An eSIM works just like a physical SIM card, but it is stored digitally inside your phone.

Many premium smartphones, such as iPhones, Google Pixels, and Samsung Galaxy S series, support eSIM.

Why Choose eSIM?

No need to insert or remove a physical SIM.

It cannot be damaged or broken like a regular SIM card.

However, if you delete the eSIM from your phone by mistake, your network will immediately stop working.

How to Get an eSIM?

The process is different for each telecom company:

Jio users: Request through the MyJio app or visit the nearest Jio store.

Airtel and Vi users: Apply through the official app, or send an SMS with the word eSIM to 121 (Airtel) or 199 (Vi).

BSNL users: Visit the nearest customer service center.

You must complete KYC with Aadhaar.

Activation Process

After applying, follow these steps:

You will receive an eSIM QR code on your email.

Go to Settings → Mobile Networks/Cellular/SIM Services.

Select Add eSIM or Download eSIM.

Scan the QR code from your email.

You will get a verification call to confirm the process.
The setup may take up to 4 hours.

Final Steps and Security Rules

Once the eSIM is activated, your physical SIM will stop working automatically.

As per TRAI regulations, you cannot send or receive SMS for the first 24 hours after activation.

This rule helps prevent SIM swapping fraud.
