Apple unveiled its newest flagship smartphones—the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max—at the September 9 ‘Awe Dropping’ event, alongside the ultra-thin iPhone Air.
These new models are being called the most powerful iPhones ever.
With a powerful new chip, advanced camera system, and longer battery life, the iPhone 17 Pro lineup brings major upgrades.
Unlike the lightweight Air, the Pro models are bigger, thicker, and more advanced, especially the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is considered Apple’s biggest iPhone upgrade yet.
Powered by the A19 Pro Chip and More RAM
Both the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip, built on a 3-nanometre process.
In comparison, the regular iPhone 17 uses the standard A19 chip, which is slightly less powerful.
The Pro models also get more RAM—12GB, while the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air have 8GB.
This boost in power and memory allows the Pro models to handle demanding tasks, support Apple Intelligence features, and prepare for the upcoming AI-powered Siri, expected in early 2026.
To keep things cool, Apple has added vapor chamber cooling to manage heat more efficiently.
The battery size has also increased, though Apple hasn’t confirmed the exact capacity yet.
It may vary depending on the model and region—eSIM-only models are expected to have slightly larger batteries than those with physical SIM trays (like those sold in India).
iPhone 17 Pro: Upgraded Camera and New Design
The camera system is one of the biggest highlights. Both Pro models feature a larger 48MP main sensor designed for better detail and low-light photography.
The telephoto lens now supports up to 8x optical-quality zoom. For video creators, there’s support for 8K video recording, making these phones ideal for professional photography and videography.
The front camera is a new wide “center stage” camera, which adjusts framing automatically during video calls.
Apple has also introduced a refined unibody design, using a mix of Ceramic Shield 2 glass and metal (Titanium has been removed).
This dual-tone finish gives the phone a sleek, unified look. The camera module has been repositioned for a more balanced layout.
Screen sizes are now 6.3 inches for the iPhone 17 Pro and 6.9 inches for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The iPhone 17 Pro series will be available for pre-order from September 12, with prices starting at:
iPhone 17 Pro: ₹1,34,900
iPhone 17 Pro Max: ₹1,49,900
Both models come in three colors: Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver.
They will be available in stores starting September 19.
