EPFO Raises Death Relief Fund to Rs 15 lakh

Most employees in India have a Provident Fund (PF) account, which is managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

In 2025, EPFO has made an important decision to provide greater support to employees’ families during difficult times.

Death Relief Fund Increased to ₹15 Lakh

Earlier, the Death Relief Fund provided ₹8.8 lakh. From April 1, 2025, this amount has been increased to ₹15 lakh.

If a member passes away after this date, the nominated member or legal heir will receive ₹15 lakh directly from the Staff Welfare Fund.

EPFO has also announced that from April 1, 2026, the relief fund will increase by 5% every year, ensuring families receive more financial assistance in the future.

Simplified Claim and Aadhaar Process

To make things easier for families, EPFO has simplified the claim settlement process.

Now, if the money has to be transferred to the account of minor children, there will be no need for a Guardianship Certificate. This change will speed up claim settlements.

In addition, linking Aadhaar with UAN has also been made hassle-free. If any correction is needed or if Aadhaar is not yet linked, members can now update their details easily through a simplified joint declaration process.

Why This Decision Matters

This move brings major relief to employees and their families. The increased compensation, annual 5% increment,

and easier claim/Aadhaar procedures ensure that families can get timely financial support without unnecessary hurdles.
