From 15th August, the new Annual Toll Pass scheme has started in India. With this pass, private vehicle owners will not need to pay high toll charges each time for one year.
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that with the new annual FASTag pass, toll plazas can be crossed for just ₹15 per trip.
Price of pass: ₹3,000
Includes: 200 trips (1 trip = crossing the toll plaza once)
Benefit: Normally 200 trips cost around ₹10,000, but now it will cost only ₹3,000 — saving about ₹7,000.
Validity: 1 year or until 200 trips are used, whichever is earlier.
What is FASTag Annual Pass and How It Works
The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid toll plan made for non-commercial private vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans.
Its goal is to:
Reduce waiting time at toll plazas
Cut congestion and disputes
Make toll payments easier for regular travelers, especially within a 60 km radius
Key Points:
No need to buy a new FASTag — it will be linked to your existing, active FASTag registered with your vehicle number.
Works only on national highways and expressways under NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
No repeated online recharge needed — ideal for daily commuters.
Pass is non-transferable (usable only with the registered vehicle).
Where Will It Work?
The pass is valid only at toll plazas on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) operated by NHAI.
Examples: Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, Mumbai–Nashik, Mumbai–Surat, Mumbai–Ratnagiri.
It will not apply to tolls run by state authorities. On such roads, your FASTag will work normally and usual toll charges will apply.
Examples: Mumbai–Pune Expressway, Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway (Samriddhi Mahamarg), Atal Setu, Agra–Lucknow Expressway, Bengaluru–Mysore Expressway, Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway.
How to Activate the FASTag Annual Pass
As per Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL):
Check eligibility of your vehicle and FASTag using the Rajmargyatra mobile app or NHAI portal.
If eligible, pay ₹3,000 online.
After payment confirmation, your pass will be activated within 2 hours on your existing FASTag.
Once activated, the pass remains valid for 1 year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. After that, you will need to recharge again.
