The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has announced a free LPG cylinder refill under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) as a Holi gift for beneficiaries.
The state government has allocated ₹3 billion to ensure more women benefit from this scheme.
With over 1.85 crore Ujjwala beneficiaries in UP, this move will provide much-needed relief to millions of households.
BJP’s Promise Fulfilled
The BJP had pledged in its manifesto to provide free LPG refills on Holi and Diwali to Ujjwala beneficiaries.
This initiative directly benefits 1.86 crore families, with ₹1,890 crore allocated for the subsidy.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will distribute the subsidies in a special event at Lok Bhavan, Lucknow.
LPG Cylinder Subsidy Details
Twice-a-year benefit: Free cylinders are provided on Holi and Diwali.
₹300 central subsidy: The central government gives a ₹300 subsidy per cylinder.
State government’s contribution: The UP government covers the remaining cost to make the refill free.
Objective of Ujjwala Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched to provide free LPG connections to economically weaker women, ensuring they have access to safe and clean cooking fuel.
By reducing dependence on traditional fuels like wood and coal, the scheme helps prevent health hazards caused by smoke inhalation.
