EPFO Introduces Aadhaar OTP for Easy UAN Activation

The Central Government has instructed the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), through the Ministry of Labor, to use Aadhaar-based OTP (One-Time Password) for activating employees’ Universal Account Numbers (UAN).

This move is designed to make EPFO’s online services easier for employees to access.

Once activated through OTP, employees can use EPFO’s wide range of digital services conveniently from anywhere.

Campaign Mode for Seamless UAN Activation

To support the Employee Linked Scheme (ELI) announced in the Union Budget 2025, the Ministry of Labor has asked EPFO to operate in campaign mode for activating UANs.

This initiative aims to make the activation process smooth and beneficial for both employers and employees.

Key Advantages of Aadhaar-Based UAN Activation

Activating the UAN through Aadhaar-based OTP provides several benefits for employees:

Convenient Account Management: Employees can manage their provident fund accounts easily.

Digital Access: Services like downloading PF passbooks, updating personal details, and filing claims for withdrawals, advances, and transfers can be done online.

24/7 Availability: Employees can access EPFO services anytime from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the need for office visits.

How to Activate UAN Using Aadhaar-Based OTP

Follow these steps to activate your UAN with Aadhaar-based OTP:

1) Visit the EPFO member portal.

2) Click on “Activate UAN” under the Important Links section.

Enter the following details:

1) UAN

2) Aadhaar number

3) Name and date of birth

4) Mobile number linked with Aadhaar

1) Agree to Aadhaar OTP validation.

2) Click “Get Authorization PIN” to receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

3) Enter the OTP to complete the activation.

Once done, a password will be sent to your registered mobile number. This password can be used to access all EPFO digital services.

Future Plans: Biometric Authentication

EPFO plans to introduce biometric face recognition for UAN activation in its second phase, further simplifying the process for employees.

EPFO to Launch UAN Activation in Campaign Mode

To make the Employee Linked Scheme (ELI) announced in the Union Budget 2025 successful, the Ministry of Labor has asked EPFO to promote UAN activation in a campaign mode.

This effort aims to streamline the process for both employers and employees, making it smoother and faster.
