The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme is a government initiative that provides young people with the opportunity to intern at some of the top 500 companies in India.
The program allows interns to gain valuable knowledge, practical experience, and develop professional networks.
However, it is important to note that completing an internship through this scheme does not guarantee future employment.
Key Features of the PM Internship Scheme
Eligibility: The scheme is open to Indian citizens aged between 21-24 years.
Applicants must not be employed full-time or enrolled in a full-time educational program (but online or distance learning students are eligible).
Educational requirements include a Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), ITI certification, diploma, or a bachelor’s degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, or B.Pharma.
Internship Roles: Interns will have opportunities across a wide range of sectors such as IT, Banking, Oil & Gas, FMCG, Telecom, Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Automotive, Retail, Manufacturing, Media, and more.
Application Deadline: The application window for the PM Internship Scheme has been extended until November 15, 2024.
Benefits and Financial Assistance
Monthly Stipend: Interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000. This amount is split between the partner companies and the Government of India.
Partner companies will release Rs 500 based on attendance and company policies, while the government will pay Rs 4,500 via Direct Benefit Transfer to the intern’s Aadhaar-linked bank account.
One-Time Grant: Interns will receive a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 for incidentals after joining the internship. This amount will also be transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer.
Insurance Coverage: Interns will be covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana
and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana insurance schemes, which offer life and accident insurance coverage.
The premium for these schemes will be provided by the Government of India, and the company may also provide additional accidental insurance.
Clothing Assistance: There is no specific financial assistance for purchasing clothes for the internship. However, the one-time grant of Rs 6,000 may help with related expenses.
Insurance After Internship: The insurance coverage will end once the internship concludes.
