The Yogi Adityanath government has announced a major relief for people living in rural Uttar Pradesh.
Villagers will no longer need to travel to nearby cities to make an Aadhaar card or update important details such as their name, address, mobile number, or biometric information.
The Panchayati Raj Department has started providing Aadhaar enrollment and update services through Gram Panchayats, turning them into digital service centers.
So far, this facility has been launched in 110 Gram Panchayats across six districts, where more than 75,000 Aadhaar-related services have already been delivered.
Aadhaar Services to Reach Every Gram Panchayat
According to Panchayati Raj Department Director Amit Kumar Singh, the government plans to expand this service across all 57,694 Gram Panchayats in Uttar Pradesh in a phased manner.
The first phase of the project will cover 5,000 Gram Panchayats.
Once completed, villagers will be able to access Aadhaar services much closer to their homes, saving both time and travel expenses.
The initiative is also expected to create a new source of income for Gram Panchayats by offering digital public services.
Panchayat Assistants Being Trained as Aadhaar Operators
To speed up the rollout, Panchayat Assistants are being trained to work as Aadhaar operators.
More than 1,200 Panchayat Assistants have already completed the initial training, while training for the remaining staff is still underway.
At present, operator IDs of 179 Panchayat Assistants have been activated, and 157 Aadhaar machines are now ready for use.
This is helping Aadhaar services reach more villages at a faster pace.
Gram Panchayats to Become Digital Service Centers
Officials say the initiative is not limited to Aadhaar services alone.
The government aims to develop Gram Panchayats into full-fledged digital citizen service centers in the future.
This will allow villagers to access more government services without leaving their villages.
At the same time, it will strengthen the financial independence of Gram Panchayats by creating new service-based income opportunities.
The Panchayati Raj Department says expanding Aadhaar services is the first step in digitally empowering villages, and the benefits of the scheme will gradually reach every Gram Panchayat across Uttar Pradesh.
