The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for several parts of the country, including Assam and Kerala.
Assam continues to face a severe flood situation, with the death toll rising to 78.
The weather department has issued an orange alert for the next three days and warned that many areas of the state could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Assam Floods Leave Thousands Affected
Floods have caused massive destruction in Kamalchapori village under Assam’s Sivasagar district.
More than 100 families have lost their homes and are now struggling to meet their daily needs.
The flooding was triggered after the Dikhow River, flowing from Nagaland, overflowed following continuous rainfall.
Many people have lost their houses, household items, livestock, and sources of income.
According to officials, the worst-hit districts include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Biswanath, and Kamrup (Metro).
So far, floods have affected 21 Revenue Circles and 551 villages, impacting nearly 3,00,031 people across the state.
Delhi-NCR Likely to Receive Rain Today
IMD has also predicted rainfall in Delhi-NCR on July 30. Residents can expect light to moderate rain along with cloudy skies and thunderstorms.
The minimum temperature is likely to remain around 27°C, while the maximum temperature may reach 33-34°C.
Deep Depression Over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh
The IMD said a deep depression is currently located over western parts of central Chhattisgarh and nearby eastern Madhya Pradesh.
The weather system is expected to move westward across Chhattisgarh and gradually weaken into a depression within the next 12 hours.
After that, it is likely to move towards Vidarbha and adjoining parts of south Madhya Pradesh over the following 24 hours.
Because of this system, many areas in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and nearby regions may continue to receive heavy rainfall.
Landslides Disrupt Kedarnath Highway
Heavy rain has triggered landslides and road erosion at several places on the Kedarnath Highway in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, affecting traffic movement.
Restoration work is underway to reopen the highway as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, the water levels of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers have crossed the warning mark due to continuous rainfall.
The district administration has issued a high alert and asked officials to remain on maximum vigilance.
Rain Expected in Several Other States
Apart from Assam, Kerala, Delhi-NCR, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, the IMD has also forecast rainfall in several other states.
These include Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
