Booking a train ticket online is usually quick and convenient. But sometimes, the payment goes through while the ticket booking fails.
This can happen because of network issues, server problems or payment processing delays.
If this happens to you, there is no need to panic. In most cases, the amount paid for the failed transaction is refunded.
However, before paying again, it is important to check whether your first transaction was successful or failed.
When Will You Get the Refund?
If the payment has been deducted but your train ticket has not been booked, the refund process for the failed transaction is generally initiated.
The amount is usually sent back to the same payment source used for the transaction.
This could be your bank account, UPI account or another payment method.
Keep in mind that the refund may not appear immediately.
Banks and payment systems can take a few business days to process the amount.
So, if the money has not returned instantly, wait for some time before taking further action.
How to Check Your Refund Status
You can check your transaction details through the IRCTC website or app. Follow these steps:
Log in to your IRCTC account.
Check your booking and transaction history.
Look for details related to the failed transaction or refund.
Keep your transaction ID and other payment details safe.
If the refund is taking longer than expected, you can use these details while contacting your bank or IRCTC.
What If the Refund Does Not Arrive?
If you have still not received the money after 7 days, first check your bank statement and IRCTC transaction details.
If the amount is still missing, you can raise a complaint with IRCTC through its official email address, etickets@irctc.co.in.
Keep your transaction ID, payment date and other relevant details ready when submitting the complaint.
This can help the authorities track the failed transaction more easily.
You can also contact the railway helpline at 139 to register your complaint.
