Taxpayers Can Still File Their ITR with an invalid PAN card

The Income Tax (IT) Department has provided clarity on the deadline for linking Aadhaar and PAN cards, stating that it has now passed.

Failure to link PAN with Aadhaar will result in the PAN card becoming invalid. However, non-resident Indians (NRIs) are exempted from this requirement,

PAN Card and Aadhaar Link Deadline Over

The last date for linking Aadhaar with PAN card, also known as Pan-Aadhaar Link, has concluded.

Those who have not linked their PAN with Aadhaar will find their PAN cards invalid, and they must pay a fine to reactivate them.

Clarification for Taxpayers on Income Tax Return (ITR) Filing

On 18th July, the IT Department addressed the confusion among taxpayers concerning the filing of ITR.

NRIs are not required to link their PAN with Aadhaar, but they should update their residency status by approaching the Jurisdictional Assessment Officers (JAOs) with the necessary documents.

NRIs and OCIs Exempted from PAN-Aadhaar Link

NRIs and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) need not worry about their PAN cards being invalid due to the non-linking with Aadhaar. They are exempted from this requirement.

However, to ensure smooth tax filing, they must update their residency details in the department’s database.

ITR Filing with Invalid PAN Card

Taxpayers can still file their ITR with an invalid PAN card. However, this may result in potential issues such as increased tax deductions or delayed refunds.
