NRIs and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) need not worry about their PAN cards being invalid due to the non-linking with Aadhaar. They are exempted from this requirement.

However, to ensure smooth tax filing, they must update their residency details in the department’s database.

ITR Filing with Invalid PAN Card

Taxpayers can still file their ITR with an invalid PAN card. However, this may result in potential issues such as increased tax deductions or delayed refunds.

NRIs and OCIs who have not updated their residential status will find their PAN cards invalidated.

Action Required for NRIs and OCIs

NRIs and OCIs falling under the mentioned category should contact their respective Jurisdictional Assessment Officers (JAOs) and update their residency information to maintain seamless tax filing.

The Income Tax Department has shared a link to the JAO directory for individuals to locate the officials easily.
