Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has revolutionized transactions in India, simplifying the process of transferring money and making payments securely and swiftly.
However, the ease of UPI transactions can sometimes lead to accidental transfers to the wrong recipient, causing worry and concern about retrieving the funds.
What to Do When UPI Payment Goes Wrong:
1. Contact Customer Service:
Upon realizing an incorrect UPI payment, the first step is to promptly contact the customer service center of your bank or the UPI service provider.
You can also reach out to the UPI service provider through the toll-free number 18001201740.
Provide detailed information about the erroneous transaction to expedite the refund process.
RBI guidelines emphasize informing the payment service provider immediately for a quick resolution.
2. Lodge a Complaint on NPCI Portal:
If assistance is not readily available from customer service, you can lodge a complaint on the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) portal. Follow these steps:
Visit the official NPCI website.
Navigate to the “Get in touch” section.
Fill in the required information, including your name and email ID.
Select the “Dispute Redressal Mechanism” option.
Provide transaction details, including UPI transaction ID, virtual payment address, amount transferred, date of transaction, email ID, and mobile number.
Specify the reason for the complaint as “Incorrectly transferred to another account” and submit the form.
3. Timely Complaint:
It’s crucial to file a complaint immediately after discovering the erroneous transaction, preferably within three days. Delayed complaints may diminish the chances of successful fund retrieval.
