SBI YONO for Feature Phones could soon bring digital banking and UPI services to users who do not have smartphones, as State Bank of India plans to expand access to its digital banking ecosystem.

The proposed move could make everyday digital payments and banking services more accessible to people who still rely on feature phones.

SBI already offers digital banking, UPI and other payment services through its YONO platform, but its full mobile experience is designed around smartphones.

The plan is significant because feature-phone users have traditionally had fewer options for app-based banking.

A YONO service designed for such devices could give more customers access to digital financial services without requiring a smartphone.

The initiative would also build on India’s existing efforts to bring digital payments to users without smartphones.

UPI 123Pay, for example, already allows feature-phone users to make UPI transactions through methods that do not depend on conventional smartphone apps.

For SBI customers, a feature-phone version of YONO could potentially bring banking functions closer to the way smartphone users access them today.

However, the exact services, registration process, transaction limits and launch timeline will depend on the bank’s final rollout.

SBI’s existing YONO ecosystem provides access to banking and payment services, while its UPI platform supports money transfers, receiving payments, bill payments and other transactions.

SBI’s official information also confirms that its UPI services currently operate through smartphone-based platforms such as YONO SBI and BHIM SBI Pay.

A feature-phone focused offering could therefore help bridge the gap between conventional mobile banking and newer digital payment services.

This may be particularly useful for customers who have bank accounts and mobile phones but do not use smartphones.

The development comes as digital payments continue to expand in India.

UPI processed 24.51 billion transactions worth about ₹29.82 trillion in August 2026, highlighting the scale of the country’s digital payments ecosystem.

What SBI Customers Should Know Now

The reported plan should not be confused with the existing YONO SBI smartphone app. SBI currently describes YONO as a digital banking platform for managing savings accounts, investments and fund transfers, along with access to loans, insurance and other services.

Until SBI officially announces the feature-phone service with detailed eligibility and launch information, customers should wait for the bank’s confirmed instructions before relying on specific features or timelines.
