Tired of lugging around your physical driving license?
The government has provided a solution for you to keep a digital copy of your driving license on your smartphone through DigiLocker or the mParivahan app.
This digital alternative is not only convenient but also offers a safeguard against losing or misplacing the hard copy.
Plus, it’s compliant with government directives from 2018 that permit the use of digital driving licenses and vehicle registrations.
Steps to Digitize Your Driving License
Before you start, ensure that you have already created an account on DigiLocker.
If not, you can sign up by providing your phone number and Aadhaar card details.
Here’s the process:
1) Access DigiLocker: Visit the DigiLocker website and log in with your username and a six-digit PIN. You’ll receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile number for verification.
2) Get Issued Documents: Once logged in, click on the “Get Issued Documents” button.
3) Search for “Driving License”: In the search bar, type “driving license.”
4) Select Your State: Choose the state government from where you obtained your driving license or opt for the “All States” option.
5) Enter Your License Number: Input your driving license number and click on “Get Document.” Ensure you tick the consent checkbox for DigiLocker to share your data with the issuer.
6) Retrieve Your License: DigiLocker will then fetch your driving license from the transport department, making it accessible in your “Issued Documents” list.
7) Download Soft Copy: You can download your driving license in a soft copy by clicking on the “PDF” button. Alternatively, you can access it on your smartphone by installing the DigiLocker app.
Alternative Option with mParivahan
If you prefer an alternative to DigiLocker, you can opt for the mParivahan app, available on Google Play and the App Store.
After signing up, your digital driving license can be found under the “DL Dashboard” tab.
By following these steps, you can conveniently have your driving license at your fingertips on your smartphone, ensuring you’re never caught without it, even when you forget to carry the physical copy.
