Railways Roll Out Aadhaar-Based Job Applicant Verification Across India

In a major step to improve fairness and transparency in hiring, the Ministry of Railways has announced it will introduce Aadhaar-based facial recognition technology at all recruitment centres within the next four months, as confirmed by officials on Friday.

Indian Railways to Use Facial Recognition for Recruitment

This move is part of a larger reform plan led by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The goal is to make the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) process more secure, efficient, and friendly for candidates.

The new facial recognition system will use Aadhaar e-KYC to check candidates’ identities at various stages—when they apply, on exam day during registration, and even after the exam is over.

Using real-time face matching, this system will ensure that the person taking the exam is the same one who applied, helping to prevent impersonation.

Additional Anti-Fraud Measures Underway

Officials familiar with the plan said, “Aadhaar-linked photos will be matched with live images taken at exam centres.”

This extra layer of identity checking after the exam will further improve the reliability of the recruitment process.

In addition to facial recognition, the Railways also plans to use other anti-cheating technologies.

For example, mobile jammers were used at over 7,000 exam centres during the June 2025 RRB exam, which led to zero cases of cheating.

It’s important to note that adding facial recognition supports the government’s wider efforts toward digital governance and transparency.

With this step, the Railways not only want to speed up verification but also hope to build trust among candidates and other stakeholders.

This bold move sets a new standard for fairness and honesty in recruitment.

By using facial recognition, the Ministry is creating a tech-based, tamper-proof system that shows its strong focus on reform and innovation.
