The Railway Board has relaxed the rules for retaining railway quarters after an employee’s transfer. The decision aims to ensure that children’s education is not disrupted due to a parent’s transfer.
Under the revised rules, employees will now be able to stay in their railway quarters for a longer period, depending on their child’s class.
Easier to Keep Railway Quarters After Transfer
The Railway Board has issued new instructions for employees whose children are studying in Classes 1 to 8. They can now retain their railway quarters for one additional month after the academic session ends.
Earlier, employees were allowed to keep the quarter only until the end of the academic session. The extra month will give families more time to manage the transition without affecting their children’s studies.
Big Relief for Class 9 to 12 Students
The new rules provide even greater relief for families with children in Classes 9 to 12.
If a child is studying in Class 12, the family can now retain the railway quarter for three months after the final board examination. Earlier, this period was limited to just 15 days after the academic session ended.
The extended stay will help students complete their board exams without the stress of shifting homes.
Who Can Avail This Benefit?
The Railway Board has clarified that this facility will be available only if the child is studying at the same station and continues to live in the same railway quarter.
The new order will apply to pending and future cases, while cases that have already been settled will not be reopened.
Employees also cannot claim this benefit along with any similar relaxation available under other railway rules.
Railway employees have welcomed the decision, saying it will reduce the difficulties faced by families after transfers and help children continue their education without interruption.
