Maruti Suzuki, the nation’s leading automaker, is set to break new ground in the electric vehicle (EV) segment with its upcoming electric SUV.
The company has decided to manufacture its first EV at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat, adding a dedicated production line for electric vehicles to its existing manufacturing setup.

According to Rahul Bharti, Executive Director (Corporate Affairs) at Maruti Suzuki, the highly anticipated electric SUV is scheduled for launch in the next financial year, 2024-25.
The manufacturing of this groundbreaking EV will take place at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant, with plans to export the vehicles produced.
Last year, in March 2022, the parent company of Suzuki Motor Gujarat committed to investing Rs 3100 crore in the Hansalpur plant through a Memorandum of Undertakings (MoU) with the Gujarat government.

While the production volume remains undetermined at this stage, Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, with an annual capacity of 7.5 lakh units, has been a pivotal hub for both domestic and international markets.
Notable models like Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and others have rolled off the production line here, with a cumulative production of 30 lakh vehicles.
