For a long time, there were talks that mobile recharge plans would become expensive. Now, it seems that price changes are happening step by step, not all at once.
Jio has made a big change by removing its popular ₹209 plan. This plan offered 1GB data per day, unlimited calling, and 22 days validity. It was a perfect option for users who needed more calling and less internet.
209 Plan Discontinued: What It Means for Users
The ₹209 plan was the only Jio plan that provided 1GB data daily. Many users preferred it because their internet usage was low, but calling needs were high.
Now, this plan is no longer available.
This also goes against earlier suggestions by TRAI, which had asked telecom companies to introduce calling-only plans without internet. Instead, users are now being pushed toward plans with more data and higher prices.
New ₹239 Plan: Pay More for Extra Data
After removing the ₹209 plan, Jio has introduced a ₹239 plan as the closest option.
This plan offers:
1.5GB data per day
Unlimited calling
22 days validity
Users will now have to pay about 14% more compared to the old ₹209 plan. While you do get 0.5GB extra data daily, many users may not actually need it.
Also, the validity remains the same at 22 days. If Jio had increased it to 28 days, this plan could have been more attractive.
Other Recharge Options Available
Jio users still have a few options, but each comes with some compromise.
If you want a cheaper plan:
₹198 plan: 2GB/day for 14 days
₹199 plan: 1.5GB/day for 18 days
These plans cost less, but their validity is much shorter than the old ₹209 plan.
If you want longer validity:
₹299 plan: 1.5GB/day for 28 days
This plan costs ₹60 more than ₹239, but it gives you extra days, making it a better choice for some users.
