There is good news for Bangladeshi citizens planning to visit India.

The Indian government has decided to resume issuing tourist visas, bringing relief to thousands of travelers who had been waiting for the service to restart.

The announcement was made by India’s new High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, during a press conference at the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka.

Tourist Visa Services to Resume

According to Dinesh Trivedi, tourist visa services will resume from June 28.

From this date, Bangladeshi citizens can once again apply for tourist visas to visit India.

He said the decision is an important step towards improving and normalizing relations between India and Bangladesh after a period of strained ties.

Why Were Tourist Visas Suspended?

India had suspended tourist visas for Bangladeshi citizens after the political unrest that followed the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, 2024.

During this period, only medical and business visas were being issued.

After nearly two years, tourist visa services are now being restored, allowing Bangladeshi travelers to visit India for tourism once again.

Where Can Bangladeshis Apply?

Tourist visa applications will be accepted at Indian Visa Application Centres located in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, and Khulna.

Dinesh Trivedi also said that issues related to travel through the Benapole border played a role in the decision to restart visa services.

India’s New High Commissioner to Bangladesh

Dinesh Trivedi was appointed as India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh in April.

He is the first politician to hold this position, succeeding career diplomat Prannoy Verma.

With tourist visa services resuming, travel between the two neighboring countries is expected to become easier, offering fresh opportunities for tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
