New Delhi:
In a significant development for India’s “Make in India” initiative, Google has announced its decision to manufacture its Pixel smartphones in the country.
This strategic move brings India one step closer to realizing its vision of becoming a global manufacturing hub.
Google’s announcement follows the recent launch of its latest line of Pixel smartphones.
Flagship Device Production Soon
Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Devices and Services at Google, revealed that the Pixel 8 will be the inaugural device to be manufactured in India.
The first device from this series is expected to hit the market by 2024. Google is collaborating with both domestic and international manufacturers to achieve this goal.
This decision comes on the heels of Apple’s choice to initiate the manufacturing of its flagship device, the iPhone, in India.
Tesla Joins the Manufacturing Trend
India is on the path to becoming a prominent electronics manufacturing hub in the near future. The country is set to produce electronic products worth $300 billion by 2025-26.
In addition to Google and Apple, Elon Musk’s Tesla is poised to establish its manufacturing plant in India, with a focus on electronic vehicles.
This signals a growing preference among foreign companies to choose India as their primary manufacturing destination.
