The Delhi government is planning to launch the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, a financial assistance scheme for eligible women. While the scheme promises ₹2,500 every month, women may not receive the full amount in cash.
According to reports, only ₹1,000 will be credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank account. The remaining ₹1,500 will be deposited into a Recurring Deposit (RD) account, where it will remain locked for three years.
The proposal is still awaiting approval from the Delhi Cabinet.
How Will the ₹2,500 Be Paid?
As per the proposed rules, the monthly assistance will be divided into two parts:
₹1,000 will be transferred directly to the beneficiary every month.
₹1,500 will be deposited into an RD account every month.
The RD account will have a 3-year lock-in period. After three years, the beneficiary will receive the full deposited amount along with the interest earned. The government aims to encourage long-term savings through this feature.
Scheme Yet to Get Final Approval
The scheme was earlier called Mahila Samridhi Yojana, but it has now been renamed Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
The eligibility rules have already been prepared. The proposal will first go to the Delhi Cabinet for approval and then to the Lieutenant Governor. Once approved, it will be officially notified.
