If you have a Bank of Baroda (BoB) account, this update is important. The bank recently confirmed a cybersecurity incident in which an employee’s email account was accessed without authorization.
Reports have since claimed that some data has appeared on the dark web.
There is no need to panic, but this is the right time to strengthen your account security. Taking a few simple steps can help protect your money and personal information from scammers.
Change Your Password and Debit Card PIN
The first thing you should do is change your Net Banking password. After a data breach, fraudsters may try to use stolen information to access customer accounts.
Log in to the official Bank of Baroda Net Banking portal, open the Settings or Profile section, and select Change Password. Create a strong password using a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters.
You should also reset your Debit Card PIN. You can do this through the bob World app, Internet Banking, an ATM, or IVR (phone banking).
If using an ATM, select the PIN Change/Green PIN option, complete the verification process, and set a new 4-digit PIN.
Keep Alerts On and Avoid Fake Calls
Always keep SMS and email transaction alerts enabled. This allows you to receive instant notifications whenever money is credited, debited, or used for an online payment.
If alerts are not active, enable them through the bob World app, Internet Banking, or by visiting your nearest Bank of Baroda branch.
Be extra careful with phone calls, SMS messages, WhatsApp messages, or emails claiming to be from the bank.
Fraudsters often pretend to be bank officials or KYC executives and ask customers to click on fake links or share sensitive information.
Never share your OTP, UPI PIN, ATM PIN, CVV, Net Banking password, or login details with anyone. Bank officials never ask for these details over a phone call or message.
Monitor Your Bank Account Regularly
After any reported data breach, it is important to keep a close watch on your account activity.
Cybercriminals sometimes make small transactions first to check whether an account is active before attempting larger fraud.
Check your bank statements, mini statements, and transaction history regularly.
If you notice any transaction that you do not recognize, report it to Bank of Baroda immediately and take steps to secure your account without delay.
