Parents of children aged between 15 and 17 years should pay attention to an important Aadhaar update.
If your child’s Aadhaar biometric details have not been updated, the Aadhaar number could be deactivated.
This may create problems while accessing government benefits, educational services, and other important facilities.
Biometric Update Is Mandatory
According to Adeeba Ansari, Director of the Aadhaar Center on Modinagar Road, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is running a special campaign to encourage parents to complete the mandatory biometric update of their children’s Aadhaar cards.
The campaign is focused on children who have crossed the ages of 5 or 15 but have not yet completed the required biometric update.
Aadhaar Update Required at Ages 5 and 15
UIDAI requires biometric details to be updated in two stages during a child’s life.
The first mandatory biometric update must be completed when the child turns 5 years old.
The second update is required after the child turns 15 years old.
During this process, the child’s fingerprints, iris scan, and latest photograph are recorded and updated in the Aadhaar database.
No Charges for the Update
The biometric update service is completely free of cost.
Parents do not have to pay any fee at Aadhaar centers for completing this mandatory update.
Aadhaar Can Become Inactive
UIDAI has warned that Aadhaar numbers may be deactivated if these mandatory biometric updates are not completed within the prescribed age limits.
If the first update is not done between the ages of 5 and 7, or the second update is not completed between the ages of 15 and 17, the Aadhaar may become inactive.
Government Benefits and Education May Be Affected
An inactive Aadhaar can create several difficulties for children.
They may face issues while applying for scholarships, receiving Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) benefits, securing school admissions, registering for entrance examinations, and accessing various government schemes.
Parents are advised to complete their children’s biometric update as soon as possible to avoid any future inconvenience.
