SBI ATM rules have changed from October 1, 2026, reducing the number of free monthly transactions available to Salary Package Account holders when they use SBI debit cards at other banks’ ATMs and Automated Deposit-cum-Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs).
Under the revised rules, eligible SBI salary account holders can make five free transactions every month at other banks’ ATMs and ADWMs.
The limit includes both financial and non-financial transactions.
SBI ATM Rules Reduce Free Transactions
The new limit applies to SBI Salary Package Account holders using SBI debit cards at machines operated by other banks or financial institutions.
The earlier limit was 10 free transactions per month, making the October change a reduction to five.
The five-transaction limit applies across centres, with the earlier metro and non-metro distinction no longer applicable for these transactions.
Both cash withdrawals and non-financial services such as balance enquiries and mini statements are counted within the limit.
Charges After SBI Free ATM Limit
Once the five free transactions are exhausted, additional cash withdrawals at other banks’ ATMs or ADWMs will attract a charge of ₹23 plus GST per transaction.
Non-financial transactions beyond the free limit will cost ₹11 plus GST each.
These charges apply specifically to the transactions covered by the revised rules.
SBI has separately stated that the change takes effect from October 1, 2026, for Salary Package Account holders.
SBI ATM Transactions at SBI Machines
The revised five-transaction limit concerns Salary Package Account holders using their SBI debit cards at other banks’ ATMs and ADWMs.
Transactions at SBI ATMs are governed separately.
According to SBI’s published information, Salary Package Account holders can continue to make unlimited free transactions at SBI ATMs across locations.
This means customers with salary package accounts need to distinguish between transactions at SBI machines and those carried out at machines operated by other banks.
What About Other SBI Savings Accounts
The October 1 revision does not change the free transaction limit for SBI savings accounts other than Salary Package Accounts.
SBI’s existing rules for these accounts continue to provide five free transactions at other banks’ ATMs and ADWMs.
After the applicable free limit is exhausted, the existing charges for these regular savings accounts remain ₹23 plus GST for each additional cash withdrawal and ₹11 plus GST for each additional non-financial transaction.
Customers should therefore check their account type before assuming that the new five-transaction limit applies to them.
The October change specifically targets SBI Salary Package Accounts using SBI debit cards at other banks’ machines.
