Delhi Khel Protsahan Yojana has been expanded to provide monthly financial support to eligible young athletes training at Delhi government sports centres and stadiums.

Under the new initiative, selected sportspersons will receive ₹2,000 every month.

The assistance is being introduced under the Grassroot Training Support Assistance component of the scheme.

The move is aimed at helping young athletes manage regular training-related expenses and continue their sporting journey without financial difficulties disrupting their practice.

Delhi Khel Protsahan Yojana Adds ₹2,000 Monthly Support

The new assistance will cover athletes in the Under-14, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 age groups.

However, the benefit will not automatically be available to every trainee. Selection will consider sporting performance and potential, attendance, discipline and financial need.

Eligible athletes must be regularly enrolled at a Delhi government sports centre or stadium and maintain at least 80 per cent attendance.

Their performance, attendance and discipline will also be reviewed periodically.

Who Can Get the ₹2,000 Monthly Benefit

The assistance will be available to only a portion of trainees at each government sports facility. Up to 25 per cent of regularly enrolled trainees can receive the support.

Normally, the benefit will cover a maximum of 100 athletes at a centre or stadium. At larger facilities with higher enrolment, the number can be increased to 150, subject to budget availability.

The monthly assistance is intended to help young sportspersons with practical expenses that can become a challenge during the early stages of training.

These include nutrition, local travel, basic sporting equipment and medical needs.

Support for Young Sportspersons at Grassroots Level

The Delhi government has positioned the new assistance as a grassroots expansion of its existing sports promotion framework.

The objective is to provide support at an early stage, when athletes are building their skills and may need financial help to maintain regular training.

The initiative comes under the broader Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana, which already provides different forms of assistance for athletes at higher levels.

Under the existing framework, top-ranked school-level athletes can receive substantial annual support for coaching, equipment, competition participation, nutrition and other training requirements.

The scheme also includes provisions for elite athletes representing Delhi and India at the highest levels, along with support related to recognised international competitions and incentives for outstanding sporting performances.

Why the New Sports Assistance Matters

For young athletes, expenses related to daily training can become difficult to manage, particularly when they are still developing their sporting careers.

The ₹2,000 monthly assistance is designed to provide regular support rather than a one-time benefit.

The new component therefore focuses on keeping promising athletes connected with structured training at government sports facilities.

Eligibility, attendance, performance and other prescribed conditions will determine who receives the assistance.

The Delhi Cabinet approved the new Grassroot Training Support Assistance component under the Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana in September 2026.
