Vehicle owners using FASTag have received an important update. Now, customers who want to change the bank linked to their NETC FASTag will not need to deactivate the existing tag and get a new one.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched the OneTag feature at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026.

The facility allows vehicle owners to change their FASTag bank while continuing to use the same FASTag installed on their vehicle.

OneTag Fastag Makes Bank Change Easier

OneTag has been jointly developed by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Earlier, customers who wanted to change their FASTag bank had to deactivate the existing FASTag, complete the process with the new bank and obtain another tag.

This process could take time and required customers to replace the FASTag on their vehicle.

With OneTag, the same FASTag can continue to be used even after the linked bank is changed.

How OneTag Fastag Bank Portability Works

The OneTag facility is currently available through the NHAI’s Highway Yatra mobile app. Customers can complete the FASTag portability process through the app.

The process starts with an eligibility check, followed by secure verification. After the customer’s consent is obtained, the user can select a new bank of their choice.

Once the bank change process is completed, the customer will be onboarded with the new bank. Importantly, the FASTag’s Tag ID and the vehicle registration number will remain unchanged.

This means the existing FASTag installed on the vehicle can continue to work after the bank portability process.

What Will the Old and New Banks Handle?

During the transfer, the old bank will continue to handle matters related to the customer’s existing wallet. This includes verification, wallet balance, refunds, pending transactions and other related matters.

After the portability process is completed, the new bank will take responsibility for customer onboarding and FASTag-related services.

Benefits of OneTag for FASTag Users

The new facility gives FASTag users more flexibility when choosing the bank linked to their tag. Customers will no longer need to repeatedly obtain and attach a new FASTag simply because they want to change banks.

OneTag can also reduce costs linked to reprinting and shipping new FASTags, along with other expenses associated with replacing the existing tag.

For vehicle owners, the facility is expected to make the bank-switching process simpler while allowing them to retain the FASTag already installed on their vehicle.
