Gemini App for Windows is now available, bringing Google’s AI assistant directly to Windows PCs.
The new desktop app lets users access Gemini without leaving their current workflow, with features for AI assistance, content creation, video generation and multi-step tasks.
Google says the app is available globally for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Users can open Gemini quickly with the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut and continue working without switching to another application.
Gemini App for Windows Adds AI to Desktop
The new Windows app is designed to work alongside the tools and applications users already have open.
Gemini can answer questions, draft content, summarise information, brainstorm ideas and help with coding directly from the desktop.
Google has also added a dedicated workspace for more complex tasks.
Users can hand multi-step work to Gemini Spark, described by Google as a personal AI agent, while the app can also pull information from connected Google services such as Gmail and Google Drive.
The integration is part of Google’s broader push to make Gemini more agentic.
Google has been expanding Gemini’s ability to work across applications and handle tasks that involve multiple steps rather than simply responding to individual prompts.
Gemini App Can Generate Images and Videos
The Gemini App for Windows also brings Google’s creative AI tools to the desktop.
Users can generate images with Nano Banana and create videos using Gemini Omni from within the app.
Gemini Omni supports conversational video creation and editing.
Google says users can create videos from prompts, combine text, images and video, and make further changes through follow-up instructions.
Video generation availability depends on the user’s account and plan. Google currently requires an eligible Google AI plan for personal accounts to use the video-generation feature.
Gemini Works With Google Apps
Another major feature is integration with Google’s ecosystem. Gemini can use information from connected Google apps, allowing users to ask it to work with relevant content from services such as Gmail and Drive when the required access is enabled.
Google has been expanding this approach across Workspace, where Gemini can perform cross-app tasks involving Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Chat.
The aim is to reduce the need for users to repeatedly switch between different applications.
How to Use Gemini on Windows
The Gemini app requires a PC running Windows 10 or later, at least 8GB of RAM, 200MB of available storage and a stable internet connection.
Users can download the application, install it and sign in with a Google Account.
Once installed, Gemini can be opened using the Alt + Space shortcut. Google says more native desktop capabilities will be added over time, making the Windows app an important step in bringing its AI assistant deeper into everyday PC workflows.
