FASTag has made highway travel easier, but there is one important requirement that vehicle owners should not ignore — KYC.
Just like bank accounts, FASTag accounts also require KYC to verify the customer’s identity and documents.
If your KYC details have changed or your FASTag has been active for a long time without a KYC update, you may need to update your information to continue using the service without interruptions.
How to Update Your FASTag KYC
Updating FASTag KYC can be done by contacting the bank or institution that issued your FASTag.
You can visit the nearest branch and ask for the FASTag KYC update form.
Fill in the updated details and submit the form along with the required documents.
The bank or FASTag issuer will verify the information before updating your account.
If you are confused about the process, you can also contact the bank’s customer service or relationship officer for assistance.
Which Documents Are Needed for FASTag KYC?
You may need a valid identity document for the KYC process.
Documents accepted under RBI KYC guidelines include:
Passport
Driving licence
Voter ID
PAN card
Aadhaar card
MNREGA job card signed by a state government official
For FASTag, a copy of the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) is also required.
How to Upgrade From Minimum KYC to Full KYC Online
If your FASTag has been active for more than two years and you have not updated your KYC details, you may receive a notification asking you to complete the process.
For eligible FASTags, you can update KYC online through the FASTag portal of the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL).
Log in using your registered mobile number and password or OTP.
After logging in, open “My Profile” to check your current KYC status.
Then select the KYC option, choose your customer type and enter the required details. You will also need to upload the necessary identity and address documents.
KYC update requests are generally processed within seven working days.
What Happens If You Don’t Update Your KYC?
This is the part FASTag users should pay close attention to.
For FASTags issued by the National Highways Authority of India, a Minimum KYC account has limits on the wallet balance.
The wallet can hold up to Rs 10,000 per month, with a maximum limit of Rs 1 lakh in a financial year.
A Full KYC account, on the other hand, can have a maximum wallet balance of Rs 1 lakh.
If KYC is not updated within two years of FASTag activation, the wallet may eventually be disabled.
However, the money already available in the wallet can still be used. Once that balance is exhausted, the account may be closed.
Update FASTag KYC Before It Becomes a Problem
A KYC update may seem like a small formality, but ignoring it could create problems when you need to make toll payments.
If your FASTag is due for a KYC update, completing the process on time can help you avoid disruptions and continue using FASTag smoothly on highways.
