If you have any bank-related work planned for September, make sure to check the holiday list first.

Banks will remain closed for 14 days during the month due to festivals and weekly holidays.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official bank holiday calendar for September 2026. Keep in mind that these holidays are not applicable across all states.

Some holidays are limited to specific cities, so it’s a good idea to check the holiday schedule for your location before visiting a bank branch.

Bank Strike on September 11

Apart from RBI-declared holidays, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a nationwide bank strike on September 11, 2026.

The unions are demanding a five-day work week, better pension benefits, and changes to performance-linked incentive (PLI) rules. The strike could affect banking services in many parts of the country.

The September 11 strike falls on a Friday, followed by the weekend on September 12 and 13 in many places. This could lead to delays in branch services.

The UFBU has also announced a three-day strike from September 28, which matches the banks’ half-yearly closing period. If their demands are not met, the unions have warned of an indefinite nationwide strike from October 26.

Online Banking Will Continue

Even when bank branches are closed, customers can continue using UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs without interruption.

The RBI has also confirmed that RTGS services remain available 24×7 throughout the year, allowing customers to transfer funds even during bank holidays.
