The United States has temporarily suspended visa appointments for applicants around the world.
The decision comes as the Donald Trump administration continues to tighten immigration rules.
According to the US State Department, all embassies and consulates are taking part in a global training program.
Because of this, some visa appointments are being postponed. Applicants whose appointments are affected will receive a new interview date later.
Why Are Visa Appointments Being Rescheduled?
The State Department said the training is meant to help consular officers assess visa applications more consistently.
It will also help officers identify applicants who may depend on US government support after arriving in the country.
Officials have not shared how long the training will continue or when normal appointment schedules will resume.
Immigration Crackdown Continues
The Trump administration has been taking stricter steps on immigration. These include increasing deportations, cancelling visas and green cards in some cases,
and rejecting certain applications. The administration says these measures are aimed at improving national security.
However, some of these policies have faced legal challenges. Recently, a US judge blocked a Trump administration policy that stopped immigrant visas from being issued to applicants from 75 countries.
The court ruled that the policy went beyond the legal authority of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
What Should Visa Applicants Do?
According to reports, many people who had already booked immigrant visa interviews have received emails informing them that their appointments have been postponed.
If your appointment has been rescheduled, there is no need to book a new one immediately. The US embassy or consulate will contact you with a fresh appointment date once the training process is completed
