Retiring Central Government employees will soon have a simpler way to apply for their CGHS Pensioner Card.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has integrated the CGHS online system with the Bhavishya portal, making the process faster, digital, and mostly paperless.
The new system aims to reduce paperwork, avoid repeated data entry, and help pensioners access healthcare benefits soon after retirement.
The change was announced through an Office Memorandum (OM) issued on July 17, 2026.
What Has Changed for Retiring Employees?
Earlier, employees had to enter similar details separately while completing pension formalities and applying for a CGHS pensioner card.
Now, with the integration of the two portals, many details available on the Bhavishya portal will automatically transfer to the CGHS application system.
This will help in:
Reducing manual paperwork.
Avoiding repeated information entry.
Speeding up CGHS card processing.
Making retirement-related services more convenient.
The government said the move is part of its digital governance initiative to improve the ease of living for retirees and pensioners.
What Is the Bhavishya Portal?
The Bhavishya portal is an online pension processing and tracking platform developed by the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW).
It allows Central Government employees and departments to complete various pension-related procedures digitally before retirement.
Through the portal, employees can:
Track pension processing status.
Complete pension-related formalities online.
Monitor progress before retirement.
With the latest update, the portal will also support CGHS pensioner card applications.
How Will the New CGHS Card Process Work?
Under the new integrated system, several steps will happen automatically.
The process includes:
Pension details available on Bhavishya will be used to pre-fill the CGHS pensioner card application.
PAN will be used as a unique identifier for real-time verification between both systems.
After pension form verification by the Head of Office, the Pension Payment Order (PPO) will be generated.
The required CGHS contribution can be paid online through the integrated BharatKosh payment gateway.
After approval, the CGHS pensioner card can be downloaded from both the CGHS portal and Bhavishya portal.
What Is CGHS and Why Is the Card Important?
The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) provides healthcare facilities to eligible Central Government employees, pensioners, and certain other beneficiaries.
Through CGHS, beneficiaries can access:
Cashless treatment at CGHS wellness centres and empanelled hospitals.
Medicines.
Medical consultations.
Diagnostic tests.
Specialist healthcare services.
After retirement, eligible employees need a CGHS pensioner card to continue receiving these healthcare benefits.

Retiring employees can still apply for their CGHS pensioner card through the existing CGHS online portal if they prefer.
Both options will remain available for convenience.
Ministries Asked to Spread Awareness
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has asked all government departments and ministries to inform retiring employees about this new facility.
Detailed guidelines, user manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the integrated process will be released separately on the official CGHS and Bhavishya portal websites.
The move is expected to make retirement formalities simpler and help Central Government pensioners receive healthcare benefits without unnecessary delays.
