Good news for people who travel regularly on national highways.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced new features in the RajmargYatra app to make highway travel faster and more convenient.
With the latest update, eligible users can now apply for a digital local toll pass from their mobile phone without visiting a toll plaza.
NHAI has also launched an AI-powered assistant called Margmitra to help travelers with FASTag and toll-related queries.
Who Can Get a Digital Local Pass?
People living within 20 kilometers of a toll plaza can apply for a digital local pass through the RajmargYatra app.
Once approved, the pass allows unlimited travel through the selected toll plaza for an entire month.
Earlier, applicants had to visit the toll plaza, stand in long queues, and submit physical documents.
With the new system, the entire process can be completed online in just a few minutes.
The facility has been launched first at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-2 and will gradually be expanded across the country.
Verification Now Happens Automatically
To make the process simple and paperless, NHAI has integrated the app with government platforms such as DigiLocker, VAHAN, and FASTag.
After you give permission, the app automatically verifies:
Your address
Vehicle registration details
FASTag information
The app also uses GIS (Geographic Information System) technology to confirm whether your residence falls within the 20-kilometer eligibility limit of the toll plaza.
This eliminates the need to upload multiple documents or complete manual verification.
Meet ‘Margmitra’ – NHAI’s AI Travel Assistant
NHAI has also introduced Margmitra, an AI-powered assistant available inside the RajmargYatra app.
The assistant supports 22 languages and can instantly answer questions related to:
FASTag recharge
KYC updates
Refund status
Local pass information
Other highway travel services
This gives travelers quick access to important information without contacting customer support.
How to Apply for a Digital Local Pass
Applying for a local pass through the RajmargYatra app is simple. Just follow these steps:
Download the RajmargYatra app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Log in using your mobile number and OTP.
Open the Local Pass section on the homepage.
Enter your vehicle registration number.
The app will automatically verify your vehicle details and FASTag status through the VAHAN portal.
Complete address verification through DigiLocker using your Aadhaar or another approved ID.
The app will use GIS technology to check whether your home is within 20 kilometers of the toll plaza.
If you are eligible, pay the monthly fee using UPI, a debit or credit card, or net banking.
Once the payment is successful, your digital local pass will be generated instantly and linked to your FASTag.
